Why this report matters
On a retail floor, the person who closes the sale isn’t always the person who rings it up. Credit the wrong one and commission gets unfair fast — and nothing erodes a sales team’s trust quicker than a payout that doesn’t match the effort.
Shopify’s “attributed to sale” data captures who actually helped, down to individual line items, but it requires POS Pro and the native report can’t be scheduled or safely shared with staff to verify their own numbers.
A staff-attribution report credits the helping associate — by order or line item — with net sales, AOV, and how much of their activity was attributed at all. That’s the fair basis for commission, the input for coaching, and, with shareable links, something each associate can check without admin access.
What’s included
Attribution
Staff (attributed)
The associate credited with helping on the sale — not necessarily who operated the register.
Heads up: Attribution can be set per full order or per line item, and configuring it (manual or automatic) requires Shopify POS Pro. [verify]
Attribution coverage
The share of the staff member’s sales that were actually attributed.
Formula: Coverage = Attributed sales ÷ Total sales × 100
Heads up: Low coverage means missed credit; if a chunk is unattributed, fix the floor process before paying commission on it.
Performance
Orders & units
Transactions and items credited to the associate.
Gross & net sales
Sales credited to the associate, before and after discounts and returns.
Formula: Net sales = Gross − Discounts − Returns
Average order value
Basket size per associate — a fair, normalized performance measure.
Formula: AOV = Net sales ÷ Orders
Example: Two associates at equal sales but different AOV sell very differently — one upsells, one drives traffic.
Items per order
How effectively the associate attaches add-ons.
Formula: Items per order = Units ÷ Orders
Context
Location
The store the attributed sales occurred at, for multi-store roll-ups.
Refunds / discounts processed
Returns and discounts tied to the associate, for a complete picture.
Heads up: Retail reports cover POS-location sales only; online orders aren’t included here.

How to read the report
- Check coverage before paying. Unattributed sales mean missed credit; low coverage is a process fix, not a performance verdict.
- Read AOV and attach rate, not totals. Who’s on shift longest will top raw sales; AOV and items-per-order reveal who actually sells.
- Separate helped from rang-up. This credits who helped; the ‘at register’ reports credit who processed — use the right one for the right question.
- Share, don’t expose. Give each associate a filtered link to their own numbers rather than admin access to everyone’s.

Frequently Asked Questions
“Attributed to sale” credits the associate who actually helped the customer — even per line item. “At register” credits whoever processed the payment. They’re often different people; use attributed for commission and coaching.
Attribution itself — capturing who helped, especially at line-item level and configuring manual vs automatic — requires POS Pro. Report Pundit then reports and schedules that data on any plan tier. [verify against your POS plan]
Yes. With User Management you share each associate a filtered, password-protected link to their own attributed sales — no admin access to everyone else’s numbers.
