Why the Inventory Status Report matters
Most stores accumulate catalog cruft over time: Active products that are out of stock and shouldn't be, Draft products that should have been deleted, Archived products still showing up in old links. Each of these creates a small leak - a customer who lands on a page they can't buy from, a product page eating SEO juice without driving sales.
The Inventory Status Report surfaces all of this in one view. It crosses the two key catalog dimensions - product state (is the listing live?) and stock status (is the inventory available?) - and tells you exactly which combinations need attention.
Active + Out of Stock - fix urgently. Customers are landing here and bouncing. Draft + In Stock - why is sellable stock hidden? Re-activate or delete. Archived + In Stock - same question, with a longer tail. Active + In Stock - the healthy default.
This is the report ecommerce managers run before every catalog cleanup, every site refresh, and every audit.

How to read the Inventory Status Report
• The 2×3 matrix. Three product states, three stock states (or four counting Low). Healthy stores have ~95% in Active + In Stock or Active + Low.
• Active + Out of Stock. The fix-now bucket. Either reorder or hide.
• Draft + In Stock. A product hidden from shoppers but holding inventory. Re-activate or transfer the stock to another SKU.
• Archived + In Stock. Same question on a longer time horizon. Liquidate or delete.
• Active + In Stock + zero sales last 90 days. Hidden underperformers. Promote, re-photograph, or archive.
