Shopify has two reports for purchase orders not yet received: Purchases on order (no transfer created yet) and Purchase order transfers (tracks shipping and receiving). Report Pundit covers date-based questions, such as shipments sent last month and still pending. A custom report can use the date field that fits the question, such as purchase order created, shipment shipped, or shipment received. It can also be scheduled for automatic delivery, so pending quantities are tracked regularly without rebuilding the report.
Official answer
Shopify Analytics includes a Purchases on order report for open, ordered purchase orders that have no linked transfer yet. Once a transfer is linked, the Purchase order transfers report follows the order through shipments and receiving, which shows what has arrived and what is still outstanding.
Which report fits which stage
A purchase order marked as Ordered appears in Purchases on order until a transfer is created for it. After a transfer is created to track shipments and receive inventory, the order is followed in Purchase order transfers instead. A third report, Purchase order costs, covers supplier costs and estimated taxes rather than receiving. These reports are available only in stores where purchase order analytics is enabled.
When the question depends on a specific date
Shopify’s purchase order reports are built around purchase order and transfer records. Questions framed by a particular date, such as which shipments left during a given month and are still waiting to be received, or what arrived within a date range regardless of when the purchase order was created, may need a differently structured report.
Report Pundit adds that flexibility on top. A custom report can use the date field that matches the question: purchase order created date, Received at date, Shipment shipped date, or Shipment received date. The date range is then applied to that field. This makes it possible to monitor outstanding shipments, spot delayed or partially received orders, and reconcile inventory receipts for a specific period.
The report can also be scheduled for automatic delivery in the preferred output format, so pending quantities are reviewed on a regular rhythm without rebuilding the report each time.
