Does Shopify compare unfulfilled order quantities with stock on hand by SKU?

QUICK ANSWER

Shopify’s Inventory page shows Committed, Available, and On hand stock by variant and location, which gives a close view of stock against unfulfilled orders. This entry covers what that view includes, where it falls short of an exact count, and how to build an order-based comparison by SKU.

Official answer

Partly. Shopify’s Inventory page shows Committed, Available, and On hand quantities for each variant by location. Committed includes units in unfulfilled orders but also draft order reservations and transfers ready to ship, so it is a close comparison rather than an exact unfulfilled-orders count.

In the Shopify admin, open Products, then Inventory. Each variant is listed with its Committed, Available, and On hand quantities, and views can be saved to show only the columns needed. Clicking a Committed quantity lists the orders behind it, and the inventory export includes Committed, Available, and On hand columns for each location.

Two details matter when reading those numbers. Committed is not limited to unfulfilled orders, because draft order reservations and transfers marked ready to ship are counted in it too. Available is also already net of Committed, so the like-for-like check is unfulfilled quantity against On hand. When Available reaches zero, every unit on hand is already spoken for.

Where an order-based view is needed, Report Pundit starts from the pre-built Unfulfilled Orders report, which shows the quantity still to ship on each open order. Variant SKU can be added through Add Columns, along with inventory quantity fields, including quantity by location. Each SKU then sits next to the stock held for it, and draft reservations stay out because the report is built from orders. The finished report can be scheduled to email or Google Sheets, which removes the manual export from the Inventory page.
