Can you total Shopify POS cash drawer adjustments across a date range?

QUICK ANSWER

Merchants sometimes want to pull Shopify POS cash tracking session data and see the total cash drawer adjustments summed across a date range. Native Shopify doesn't show that as a single number, so a custom Cash Tracking report can be built instead, using a session ID column (since Shopify doesn't give sessions a name or number) and a column that breaks each adjustment out separately, so individual adjustments show on their own instead of only as one combined total.

Official answer

Partly. Shopify's native Cash Tracking report (Point of Sale channel, POS Pro only) lets you pick a date range and pull every session in it at once, but it adds up the cash counted versus expected and the cash payments taken in, not the adjustments themselves. Getting a total of just the adjustments still means adding up that column yourself.

What Shopify's Cash Tracking report actually gives you

From the Shopify admin, go to Sales channels > Point of Sale, then either open a location and click View details under Cash tracking summary, or click Cash tracking to compare all locations. Pick a date range and you'll see three things: a summary of how much cash was expected in the drawer versus how much was actually counted across every session in that period, a summary of total cash payments taken in (and refunded), and a list showing every session, one row each. You can export the whole summary, every session in the list, or just the ones you pick.

This is a real, working report, not a workaround someone has to piece together. But it comes with one condition worth knowing upfront: it only shows up for locations on a Shopify POS Pro subscription. If your store is on standard POS, this report isn't available to you at all.

Where it stops short of a summed adjustment total

The two things this report adds up for you are the expected-versus-counted difference and the cash payments. What it doesn't add up is the actual adjustment made when a session closes, meaning the cash a staff member added to or removed from the drawer to correct the balance. That number exists, but it sits on each session by itself. Nowhere in the Shopify admin does it get rolled into one total across a date range. If you want that number, you're either opening each session one at a time, or exporting the full list and totaling that column yourself in a spreadsheet.

How a reporting app closes that gap

Report Pundit's prebuilt Cash Tracking report pulls the same underlying session data and does that adding up automatically. It shows the total of those adjustments for whatever date range you choose, so instead of opening sessions one by one or totaling a spreadsheet column by hand, the number is already there in the report.

Two things are worth knowing if a total ever looks off. First, because the report groups everything by session, a single number like the adjustment total can actually represent several individual adjustments added together behind the scenes. If you want to see each one on its own, adding a column for adjustment time breaks the total apart into individual rows instead of keeping it as one combined figure. Second, since Shopify doesn't give sessions a simple name or number anywhere a merchant can see, the report includes its own session ID column, so you can match any row back to the exact session it came from in your Shopify admin.
