Can I create a pick list in Shopify from sales by variant with bin location and inventory by location?

QUICK ANSWER

Shopify can build a pick list from sales by variant, but it takes two reports: sales by variant (with the Bin metafield) and inventory by location, matched on variant ID. Barcode is in neither report, so a single native report cannot show everything. Report Pundit combines net quantity sold, barcode, Bin, and stock by location in one report you can sort by Bin and export. Edits after picking, such as quantities, metafields, and transfers, are made in Shopify, since Report Pundit exports but does not write changes back.

Official answer

Yes. In Shopify it takes two reports, sales by variant with the variant metafield and inventory by location, matched on variant ID, and barcode comes from the variant data. Report Pundit puts net quantity sold, barcode, a variant metafield such as Bin, and stock by location in one report.

In Shopify, the sales report in Analytics returns net items sold by variant ID, SKU, and title for a date range. It can also include a variant metafield such as Bin, once the metafield definition has the analytics-queryable capability turned on. Stock by location sits in a separate inventory by location report, which lists ending units for each location and variant. Barcode is not in either report, and the metafield is available only in the sales report. A single native report therefore cannot show all of it.

Report Pundit builds the same sheet as one report. It starts from the Sales by Variant structure (Net Quantity, Product Title, Variant Title, Variant SKU, Barcode) and adds Location Name and Inventory Quantity, as in Inventory by Location. Bin comes in through Custom Properties: choose Metafields, pick the Variant metafields sub-category, select the key, name the column, and save. If the key does not appear, the metafield needs to be synced first. Net quantity follows the report’s date range, and inventory shows what is available when the report runs. Sorting by the Bin column keeps rows in shelf order, and the report exports as Excel, CSV, or PDF.

Changes after picking are made in Shopify. The inventory CSV updates quantities for each location, and importing it overwrites existing inventory data. The variant bulk editor updates variant metafields, because the product CSV does not support them. Products > Transfers accepts a CSV of variants and quantities to move stock between locations. Products managed by app, third-party logistics, or custom fulfillment locations cannot be transferred this way. Report Pundit exports the current values to start from but does not write changes back.
